"The Washington Quarter debuted in 1932 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of the nation's first president. For Washington's profile portrait, designer John Flanagan used as his inspiration the acclaimed 1785 bust sculpted by Jean Antoine Houdon. The reverse featured a heraldic eagle. After a short hiatus, the Washington quarter was brought back as a circulating coin in 1934. It has been struck every year since. The coins have been made at all three of the main U.S. Mints. Those intended for commerce are struck in Philadelphia and Denver; Proof specimens ( Made specially for collectors ) are struck in San Francisco." - Whitman Publishing
